Brooks cherry

Brooks cherry was obtained in the United States by the Davis station in California. The origin of this variety is a cross between Rainier and Burlat. It was registered with the name of Brooks since 1995.

Flowering: The variety of cherry Brooks is a self-sterile variety of medium flowering. It belongs to the group XVIII (S1S9). Viveros Provedo (official seller of the variety), recommends Van (Group II) and Garnet (Group IX) as pollinators.

Maturation: Brooks cherry, mature 10 days of Burlat. According to the multiplication nursery, they are 7 days after Burlat. Either way,  Brooks cherry, is a cherry of early maturation.

Productivity: Brooks , is a variety of cherry with a very high productivity.

Vigor and bearing of the tree: Brooks Cherry tree has weak vigor and semi-erect bearing.

Size: The size of the fruit is coarse, Brooks cherries have a caliber of 28mm.

Shape: Brooks , the cherry has a reniform shape.

Skin color: During its maturity, the variety of cherry Brooks , has a garnet color.

Pulp Color: When the cherry is ripe, Brooks presents pulp color dark red.

Taste: Brooks cherries, despite being an early cherry, has a sweet taste and very good flavor.

Firmness: The firmness of Brooks, is considered Sign. Essential aspect for post-harvest life

Resistance to cracking: This is the weak point of this great variety of cherry.  Brooks cherry  has little cracking resistance. Its planting in rainy climates is very risky.

Cracked area: Wounds produced by cracking in the general or apical zone of the cherry.

Length of the peduncle: The length of the peduncle of the Brooks cherries are very short. The speed of collection can be slow VS varieties of longer peduncle.

Does not release the peduncle.

Positive aspects: Maturity date early. Early cherry with excellent characteristics, size thick, taste very good and firm. Productivity very high.

Negative aspects: Variety auto-sterile. High sensitivity to cracked.
