Royal Bailey cherry tree is a variety obtained by the Zaiger’s Inc Genetics research station located in Modesto (California).
The patent application for Royal Bailey was registered in the United States on the 4th of November 2009
This variety is the result of obtaining freely pollinated seeds of the cherry tree 22ZB383 ( Royal Dawn x Minnie Royal).
Curiosities: In the United States it is a variety of growing popularity among producers. In Spain, their behavior has not yet been studied in depth. Viveros Mariano Soria and Viveros Ebro can produce and provide this variety in Spain.
Characteristics of the Royal Bailey cherry variety
Flowering: the Royal Bailey cherry is a variety self-sterile, it needs the crossing with other varieties to pollinate. Pollination alleles S1 and S3 (group II). It is a variety of early flowering (last week of March), it is recommended to pollinate with Samba and Sweetheart.
Maturation: Royal Bailey , is a variety of early cherry, uniform ripening, 7 days after Burlat.
Productivity: the cherry tree Royal Bailey is very early and has a very high productive capacity . Fruiting on May corsages.
Vigor and bearing of the tree: Royal Bailey has medium vigor and has semi-open. The bearing is rather erect until it enters production and achieves a more open bearing. To help extend the tree, branch tying techniques are used in plantations, which allow increasing the opening angle.
Morphological characteristics of Royal Bailey cherry
Size: Royal Bailey produces very thick cherries of 30-32 mm.
Shape: Royal Bailey cherries have a rounded shape.
Skin color: Royal Bailey’s harvest is done by reaching an attractive cherry color dark red.
Pulp color: Royal Bailey pulp has color Red.

Crack Resistance: Royal Bailey is a cherry with half – cracking resistance time.
Peduncle length: Royal Bailey has a peduncle of long length. The long peduncle and the large size of the cherry, favor a good harvesting rhythm.
Do not release the peduncle.
Positive aspects: early, productive and precocious, Royal Bailey produces large and very good quality cherries for their ripening date.
Negative aspects: On the other hand, this cherry is sensitive to cracking and there is little information on the cultivation of the variety in Spain.
The different kinds of cherry trees, can vary their behavior with respect to the one described by the breeder.
The area and growing conditions influence the productive behavior of the cherry tree. Among the factors that influence, we have, for example: climate, soil composition, altitude, subscriber and phytosanitary treatments against pests, collection time, pruning, rootstock, cherry tree load, bacteria, fungi, viruses or other pathologies, etc.
Before deciding to carry out a cherry plantation, we must know the existing varieties and their behavior in our cultivation area. The information and advice provided by farmers in the area, agronomists, technicians and professionals in the sector, is essential to achieve acceptable profitability with the cultivation of cherry tree.
