Samba Cherry, obtained by the Summerland research station in Canada. The origin is a cross made between different strains of Stella. Samba® is within the varietal record of the European Union with the name of Sumste, year 1996. As for the exploitation rights of the variety, they expire in the year 2026.
Curiosities: Despite its more than 20 years of existence and its good qualities, currently, it is a rare and widespread variety known in Spain. Because of its large size, heart shape, flavor and firmness, good selling prices should be achieved for this cherry variety.
Characteristics of the Samba Cherry variety
Flowering: Samba is a self-fertile variety of cherry. Samba cherry is of early flowering (blooms during the last week of March). It is classified within Group II of pollinators, alleles S1S3. A recent publication of CICYTEX indicates that the variety is self-sterile. You can pollinate with Early Bigi (Group XVIII), Sweet Heart (Group III) and Garnet (IX)
Maturation: Samba, is considered a variety of medium maturation . Reach the point of collection or maturation, after 18 days of Burlat .
Productivity: Samba cherry , is a variety of cherry media . Other sources give this variety productivity between medium and high.
Vigor and carriage of the tree : The variety of cherry Samba, is vigorous and the bearing of the tree is erect .
Morphological characteristics of the Samba Cherry
Size: Samba cherries have a size very thick , when it reaches maturity. Samba has a size of 29-30mm . Due to their large size, cherry buying plants are willing to pay better prices.
Form: Samba® has Cordiform form . Consumers prefer cherries with this nice form.
Skin color: The variety of cherry Samba , presents garnet color upon reaching maturity.
Pulp color: The pulp in Samba cherry, has colored Red .
Taste : The variety of Samba cherry is classified as a variety of good flavor.
Firmness: The cherry Samba , is firm , lasts or has good firmness. The hard cherries, have better post-harvest and sale price.
Cracked Resistance: Cherry Samba variety, has good resistance to cracking, cracking or cracking. This characteristic helps to reduce risks in climates with a high probability of rain.
