Black Star cherry

Black Star cherry (DCA BO 85.723.002) was obtained by the research center of the University of Bologna in Italy. The origin is a cross made during the year 1985 between Lapins (1983) and Burlat . The variety is found in the EU varietal record under the name Black Star (2012). Therefore, currently, authorization is needed for the multiplication of this variety of cherry. As for the exploitation rights of Black Star, they have a duration of 30 years, maintaining their validity until the year 2042. Currently, Provedo nurseries is the authorized nursery for its propagation in Spain.

Curiosities:  Back Star cherries have not shown symptoms of cracking, even in springs of high rainfall. It is a variety of recent introduction, which due to its characteristics, should expand at a good pace during the next years.

Characteristics of the Black Star cherry variety

Cracked Resistance: The Black Star cherry variety has very good crack, cracking or cracking resistance. It has not shown signs of cracking during high rainfall springs. For the safety that cracking resistance provides, it is a variety that should not be missing in any commercial plantation.
