During the cherry picking season it is important to know the possibilities that are presented to us by having this fruit at home. Cherry is a very versatile fruit, loved by both children and adults. Not only can we taste it as fresh seasonal fruit, but we can add it and use it to make different recipes such as cherry jam, smoothies, jellies, salads, cakes, sorbets, ice creams, etc.
The drawback when making the recipes is that the cherries have pits and in most cases we have to pit them to make our dishes. There are different kitchen utensils that make it easier for us to pit Cherries. They are useful deboners or kitchen robots (Thermomix) among others.

How do you make homemade Cherry Jam?
Today we will see how to make an exquisite homemade cherry jam, the recipe is from my mother and it is very successful.
To make the Cherry Jam, first of all, it is convenient to make a selection of cherries with homogeneous maturity. It must be taken into account that we will obtain better results if the cherries are in an optimal state of ripeness. Thus we manage to maintain a greater part of the acidity and achieve a more pleasant flavor.
The pitting of the cherries is the most laborious work. To debone, you can help yourself with kitchen utensils that you have at home such as knives, deboners or kitchen robots.
Cherry Jam Recipe
To make the Cherry Jam we need the following ingredients:
- 500 grams of pitted cherries.
- 250 grams of sugar.
- Juice of 1 lemon.
After the pitting of the Cherries, mix the sugar with the pitted Cherries in a bowl.
Let this mixture rest for 30 minutes at room temperature.

How to preserve homemade jam?
To preserve our homemade cherry jam, we will proceed to add it hot to glass jars which we can seal under vacuum in different ways:
- To give the jam a bain-marie, we will use a saucepan with water where we will place our cherry jam jars.We will place it on the fire at maximum temperature and let it boil for 15 minutes. When using the water bath, the jars can burst, especially if we overfill them.
- Another way to perform the vacuum is to fill the jars ( previously disinfected) with the hot jam ( boiling), fill them and pour over. turn them down after closing them, in this way by themselves they will perform the vacuum. This is a quite simple and effective way to preserve our homemade jams.
Between the two ways of preserving jams, in my house the second is chosen, always being very careful to avoid burning ourselves with the boiling jam.
Basic utensils
For the correct realization of the recipe, the following kitchen utensils and instruments can be used.
- Stainless Steel Knife Set
- Cherry Pitcher
- Jam Jars
- Express pot
