Garnet cherry (Magar)

Garnet cherry was obtained by private researcher Marvin Niess in California (United States) . Garnet is known as Magar. Its origin is a cross made between Starking and Bing. The variety is within the varietal record of the European Union with the name of Magar, year 1990. The rights of exploitation of Garnet, have a duration of 30 years, remaining in force until the year 2020.

Garnet cherry features

Bloom: Garnet cherry is auto-sterile. It is a cherry variety of early flowering (performs flowering during the last week of March). It belongs to Group IX (S 1 S 4). You can pollinate with Burlat (Group XVI), Sweet Heart (Group III), Lapins (S1S4‘).

Maturation: Garnet is a maturing variety media, 13 days after Burlat .

Productivity: The cherry variety Garnet, is Productivity High. They recommend severe pruning to avoid overload.

Vigor and carriage of the tree: Garnet cherry tree has medium vigor and has a semi-erect bearing.

Chill hours: Cold needs are approximately 800 HF (chill hours).
